When Tammy asked if she can take part in our first Boot Camp over five years ago, we were a bit apprehensive. She had quite a history with an injured knee and was concerned whether the program would be a bit much for her. Her spunky attitude won us over and after determining the extent of the knee injury, we gave her the go-ahead and agreed to monitor the situation along with her.Soon she was the life of the party and motivated one and all as the ladies embarked on the first week of the program.
With the fanfare of the first week out of the way, it was time to weigh-in early in the second week. To Tammy’s amazement, of course looking forward to shedding some kilos, she got onto the scale only to be told that she gained a few hundred grams! We explained about the body’s metabolic set point, and how one good week sometimes makes little or no difference; not too dissimilar to one bad week after a few good months of training. Undeterred we tackled the second week of training, and before long, the effects of progressive, consistent training, as well as Oprah’s no-white-stuff eating plan, Tammy and the other Boot Campers set off on a most memorable journey.
Fitness From Africa’s Boot Camps offer a fun, supportive atmosphere and include a low-intensity cardiovascular component, injury prevention exercises and core strength development, as well as vigorous circuit sessions with a vast array of exercises. The objective is to keep the heart rate high, activate all the large muscle groups for maximum effect on energy expenditure, while balancing the exercise selection to incorporate all-round fitness conditioning. Sessions end off with some stretching with our popular Golgi Stretch Straps.
Boot Camp has many exciting features, including training outdoors, high cardio involvement, as well as the innovative use of exercise tools such as medicine balls, elastics, skipping ropes, Physio Balls, light dumbbells, and even boxing gloves. No experience is required as Campers can start at their own level and raise the bar each time they adapt to the load of training. The accumulative effect of all of this is a no-nonsense march towards all-round fitness and a strong, lean body that will motivate men and women to keep on coming back for more!
Tammy and the other campers completed the initial 12-week program with phenomenal increases in fitness, overall health as well as weight-loss.
Not only did her knee survive the program, but it got stronger and she lost an amazing 15kg of weight!
