Vaal 2010

The Vaal Marathon was just a great race from start to finish. Yes, I was aiming for 3h10, but I always like to aim high!  It was only a month ago that I slashed 8 minutes off my previous best marathon time of 3h22 (not counting when I was a youngster in my 20’s) to finish Sasol Marathon in 3h14m30s, and to shave another 2.5 minutes off that was fantastic. Why did I have such a great race?

My Vaal PB

A week later, and I’m still on a high after smashing my previous marathon PB. Leading up to the race, I felt that my training had gone well, so I was confident that I would do well and that I should take a few minutes off my PB. I just never thought I would go 14 minutes faster! Not in my wildest dreams, and as if it couldn’t get any better, I found that the run was actually easier than I thought it would be. I felt fresh most of the way, and loved the speed. How could that be?

Going the extra mile

How far will you go for a PB! A number of our runners proved that they are prepared to go that extra bit to run faster than they have ever run before. And I don’t mean the extra miles in training, although sometimes that does help, but rather doing what it takes to make the success of their race.
