Getting lean and mean!

Starting a fitness program can be quite daunting.  Not only is there the question of what you should do to achieve your goals, but even more importantly, are there any exercises that should be avoided?

Strength training

Many athletes are spending hours per week in the gym or strength room and often come away with disappointing results. The hard fact is that many are still following conventional body-building routines based on programs dating back to the 70’s. In order to be effective in competitive sports, strength training has to be functional, and phased in such a manner that it complements skills development and does not hinder the development of the athlete.

Boot Camp in Lonehill!

When Tammy asked if she can take part in our first Boot Camp over five years ago, we were a bit apprehensive.  She had quite a history with an injured knee and was concerned whether the program would be a bit much for her.  Her spunky attitude won us over and after determining the extent of the knee injury, we gave her the go-ahead and agreed to monitor the situation along with her.

Training Programs

At the inception of Fitness From Africa more than a decade ago, there were very few training programs available either on the internet or coaching services as a whole. Nowadays running programs are a dime a dozen and the click of a button will present you with a detailed training program complete with cherries on the top! After all, it’s pretty easy to slap some training runs onto a spreadsheet and piling on the sessions towards the goal event. Some of these may be effective and some not.
