At the inception of Fitness From Africa more than a decade ago, there were very few training programs available either on the internet or coaching services as a whole. Nowadays running programs are a dime a dozen and the click of a button will present you with a detailed training program complete with cherries on the top! After all, it’s pretty easy to slap some training runs onto a spreadsheet and piling on the sessions towards the goal event. Some of these may be effective and some not.
At Fitness From Africa we pride ourselves in the fact that programs have been carefully formulated according to the following principles:
Adding components to a program such as speed, mileage or number of sessions is not as easy as it may sound. The assumption is that it will increase levels of performance, but just one run too many may result in breakdown or injury. Human nature is to get started before we are ready, and to stop before we have exhausted all possible avenues. The ideal is to have controlled patience at the outset of a training program or an event, and single-minded determination in the closing chapter.
